Review: Sage Francis - Human The Death Dance

Sage has just released his third solo album Human The Death Dance. Overall the CD isn’t as violent and political as A Healthy Distrust nor is it as saddening as his Personal Journals, just a blend of everything he previously has done. Even a track that would have fit on the Non-Prophets CD shows up bashing ’shitheads’ that think the movie 8-Mile was real. The self proclaimed artist and poet boarders more on the poet side this time around but he doesn’t overdo it. Underground For Dummies, the lead track, takes you on a short journy through Sage’s hip-hop carreer. From smashing the trophey he won at the biggest rap battle competition in order to grow to releasing 3 CDs and maturing. Reminds me of an old school Beastie Boy type track. The last track, Going Back to Rehab reminds us that we all go through some tough times. Any Sage fan would feel at home picking up this CD. If you are in the hunt for something new, pick up Human The Death Dance. His ‘white’ voice may turn you off at first, but stick around for a few listens, he’ll grow on you. The best CD I’ve heard to date this year.
